Meeting Creative Computing Team/Coded Application

This week Jordan, Nick and I met with Jake (lecturer) to present the work we had completed on the coded application to receive some feedback.

Development

As mentioned in previous blog posts, I will be working with Jordan to develop the coded application. My job will be implementing the design aspects within the application to make sure it looks similar, or identical, to the prototype I have been working on within Adobe XD.

Due to our Easter break next weekend (2 week vacation) Jordan and myself will be relying on GitHub to communicate the changes. Due to Jordan’s greater experience with coding in Swift (Apple’s coding language) and Xcode to develop the app, he will be developing in the Development Branch of the app (the final copy). We have then set up a secondary branch for the User Interface, which I will use to implement design changes.

When I make changes to the application I can make what’s called a ‘commit’, where Jordan can accept or decline, and the Development branch will automatically make the changes.

Meeting

Overall, Jake was happy with the progress we have made on our app. A number of minor interface changes were made, for example removing a number of graphics to make more room for buttons. The one main talking point came from Nick’s testing he completed the week before where one of his users commented that we should try to shift the focus from the word of the day opening as soon as you open the app. The reason behind this was that it took their focus away from the profile and calendar section.

To resolve this, we decided to add a new home page where the user will be shown a screen to selected either profile, word of the day or calendar. This will give the user a better understanding of the app when they first open it, as well as a place for us to display the history of the user’s word of the day entries.

A quick mock up of the design could look like this:

Before we meet with our team next, Nick said he would mock up some drawn designs of what this could look like for me to create some Digital Designs to present to the rest of our team. We will then decide whether this page should be included.

Meeting

Due to a number of our team going home for Easter, we agreed to either arrange a Skype call to discuss these changes, or discuss in detail the changes on our group chat which we have created for this project.
