The Creative Incubator module has been thoroughly enjoyable. I have enjoyed working with a different course and seeing the work they produced, as well as learning new skills from them that I might not have necessarily learnt from others on my course. This module has allowed me to use my design skills to benefit our app, as well as improving on skills that could be directly relatable to industry. Throughout the Creative Incubator module I have felt I have learnt new technical and personal skills that I intend improving on, to help me in my personal work.
This module has allowed me to improve further my design skills, through learning new software, as well as collaborating with others who have different skill sets to me. The first new piece of software I used in this module was Adobe XD. This software was really useful throughout the initial design and prototyping stages. I created the initial wireframes, interactive prototypes, as well as a high-fidelity prototype that we used to test with our target audience using Adobe XD. Going through this process was really useful for me to better understand the design and development of making an application.
Collaborating within a team of five has given me the ability to work on many skills such as time management, decision-making, organising and planning, problem-solving and even conflict resolution, to name a few. One collaborative piece of software I was introduced to through this module was GitHub. I have worked on collaborative jobs in the past, but this has mainly consisted of design work that has not involved any coding. I was introduced to GitHub by Jordan to implement the design aspect that I worked on into the final application. This was really useful as we did not have to meet up constantly to track each other’s work. This meant better time efficiency, leading to a better end product.
Another aspect of this module that was new to me was the route in which our app could receive funding and be placed to the market in order to make money. Learning about Social Enterprises and Commercial Ventures was really interesting and deciding which route to go down for our app allowed our team to discuss and learn more. Gaining this information has allowed me to open my mind to possible opportunities post graduation. Developing an app from an original idea to a finished product has given me the confidence that, if the opportunity to produce an app after graduation arose, I would have the skills to put together a team to complete it.
Overall this module has been one of my most enjoyable throughout studying Creative Computing. Having the chance to work with another course within a different working environment of Artworks Media was very different to other modules. I feel I have the confidence to implement the skills learnt in this module to either seek a job or work for myself.
