Following the usability test I carried out within the session on Monday (25th March), I have made a number of changes to the application.
1. Calendar Filter
Before After
This change was made following the feedback that the filter icon looked like a button. Integrating the icon into the filter bar and making the whole bar a button to activate the drop-down menu makes it much easier for the user to interact with.
2. Home button
Following the usability test, a number of users commented that they were reluctant to tap the S logo. Changing the S logo to a more obvious home button allows the user to associate this by directing them to the home screen.
3. Button Highlights
Using the red paint splat to represent the page the user is currently on allows for easier navigation throughout the app.
4. Project settings, edit profile and add project
Following the usability test on Monday, a number of the users suggested removing the ‘edit profile’ button (pencil) and combine both ‘edit profile’ and ‘profile settings’ together. This allowed me to increase the size of the ‘create new project’ button (plus icon) making it much easier for the user to create a new project. Then moving the settings button next to the user’s profile image makes it more obvious.
5. Filter buttons
One comment from a user, during the usability session, was that they were unsure at first what the three different buttons did. Adding the filter icon and enlarging them allowed the user to easily interact with them, as well as making their use more obvious. In the final app, we will allow the user to scroll across and choose the different filters. This will allow us to keep the buttons larger and make them easier to read.
6. Upload new project
One feature that was pointed to me during the usability session was that the user had no way of adding a new project to the Featured Project filter. Including a tick box in the ‘Upload New Project’ pop-up box allows the user to add a new project to the ‘Featured Project’ filter.
7. File Attachment
A new feature that came about during the usability testing session was allowing the user to upload different file types (other than an image) to their ‘daily prompt’. A new menu which is accessed by tapping on the paper clip allows the user a choice of an image or link. For example, if the user wanted to import a Soundcloud file. In our next team meeting, I will discuss with the developer (Jordan) whether files can be uploaded, for example, a .txt file for sheet music or a book.
8. Upload New Project Task
Some users, during the usability test, commented on how the ‘Todays Project Tasks’ section of the Calendar was very confusing and they were unsure if it was linked to the users profile or not. The ‘Todays Project Tasks’ is made up of the ‘Working Project’ shown on the Profile Page. This helps them to complete their project by the due date, giving them daily notifications to spend a set amount of time to work on them. To make this more obvious, the plus button on the ‘Todays Project Tasks’ allows the user to select a current ‘Working Project’ and set tasks related to these current projects.
Prototype Version 2:
Prototype Version 2Moving Forward
Moving forward, we have a meeting with our team scheduled for Monday 1st April. I will show the team members the working prototype and gather any further feedback they may have. Following this, I will hopefully be carrying out some more specific usability testing with our target audience.
